A very interesting article, but just to clarify matters: Valencian, or Catalan, as it is usually known, is not a mere "dialect", as the author of the article calls it, but a language at the same level of French, Spanish or Italian (all of them derive from Latin). The fact that Valencian (or Catalan) has not a strong state of its own in which to be official (with the exception of the tiny state of Andorra) doesn't mean that it's a "dialect" of another language like Spanish.
