Sexus
By Giacomo Tramontagna

Sexus
Rating: 4 Stars
roduced by Chris Ward and J.D. Slater. Edited and directed by Chris Ward. Videography David Hempling and Russell Pachman. Music by J.D. Slater. Starring Tom Vaccaro, Peter Raeg, Sky Donovan, Luke Bronson, and Lance Gear.
How to order

Few adult video directors know as much as Chris Ward knows about making the most of a small, select cast. In Sexus, Ward's 50th production, he stages a phantasmagoric five-man orgy on a single stylized set, and the action, sustained for 90 minutes, is so vivid you can almost smell it. The stream of shifting images is like a lewd kaleidoscope of male flesh. Naked except for white socks and occasional black boots, the muscular, hirsute models seem to radiate heat. You can almost count the beads of perspiration forming on their tattooed backs.

The cast moves through a series of sculptural configurations, but you seldom feel you're watching performers completing their blocking or attending to their choreography. Sexus opens with a ferocious round of reciprocal fucking between offscreen partners Peter Raeg and Lance Gear, then segues to a sequence where broad-shouldered daddy Luke Bronson services hairy, olive-brown Tom Vaccaro (who's making an assertive return to gay video after a break). As Bronson sucks Vaccaro's cock, Peter Raeg dips into the frame and takes over. Then Gear reappears; then agile blond bottom Sky Donovan enters the picture. Everyone comes at least twice.

Like other Raging Stallion productions, Sexus has been skillfully scored by J.D. Slater, Ward's partner. Slater's full composition, Sinfonia X, can be heard on the DVD; it's in three parts, Sexus, Nexus, and Plexus, in apparent homage to novelist Henry Miller's Rosy Crucifixion trilogy. Bonus features on both the VHS and DVD editions include a montage of Michael Brandon's cumshots. The remarkable, well-endowed Brandon doesn't actually appear in Sexus, but he's there in spirit. As for Chris Ward, this video certifies his place on the top tier of gay erotic video artists.
