Prime-Time Condom Ads

View our poll archive
Two major TV networks are breaking with longstanding tradition to run condom ads in prime time. The WB Network will run the ads for Trojan brand condoms after 9pm; NBC will run them after 10pm. Church & Dwight, which makes Trojans, said its talks continue with the other major networks. There is no law against advertising condoms in prime time.

Past Trojan ads have employed a character called "Trojan Man" and used humor and pleasure as selling points. The new ads, however, place emphasis on sexual health and personal responsibility. The New York-based Kaplan Thaler Group created the "Make a Difference" campaign; it conveys a safer-sex message through the use of statistics about HIV and other STDs.

Editor's Note: from the New York Post
