Two major TV networks are breaking with longstanding tradition to run condom ads in prime time. The WB Network will run the ads for Trojan brand condoms
after 9pm; NBC will run them after 10pm. Church & Dwight, which makes Trojans, said its talks continue with the other major networks. There is no law
against advertising condoms in prime time.
Past Trojan ads have employed a character called "Trojan Man" and used humor and pleasure as selling points. The new ads, however, place emphasis on
sexual health and personal responsibility. The New York-based Kaplan Thaler Group created the "Make a Difference" campaign; it conveys a safer-sex message
through the use of statistics about HIV and other STDs.
