A rapper identified as "Sum-Yung Gai" sounds off about the sexual exigencies of prison life under the opening credits. ("Your ass is tested/You're gonna give it up/Just like the rest did/You're gonna be my bitch....") Titles introducing the four sex scenes cite forms of degradation that plague overpopulated American prisons. Three of the four sex scenes involve some degree of coercion, with guards appropriating inmates for sex. Viewers who have first-hand knowledge of prison conditions may feel ambivalent about the way this video eroticizes state-supported dehumanization, but portions of Muscle Penitentiary are undeniably hot.

The high point occurs in the third episode with an abrasive sexual scuffle involving inmate Jim Slade-- who is also topped by beefy Jake Gianelli in the opening scene-- and mean, horny cops Chad Hunt and Carlo Cox. With Hunt contributing a stream of gutter talk ("Get that pussy mouth on my dick, boy!"), the sequence features double penetration and an oral cumshot. Two segments showcase Ben Campezi, who looks like one of those vaguely Italian teenage heartthrobs of the Fifties. Making his porn debut, Campezi bottoms effectively for two contrasting types: young Jason Hawke, a fellow inmate who approaches him as he showers, and big, bald Tony Valentino, a guard who discovers him beating off. Producer/director Blue Blake received technical assistance here from Drew Warner and Michael Zen, who are also skilled directors of gay adult video. This blue-ribbon collaboration doesn't reach its full potential-- a story might have helped-- but it does deliver.
