The four Roman Catholic bishops of Massachusetts are calling for a change in state law that would make sex education an elective course rather than a requirement. Allowing for parents to opt their child into sex education, instead of opting them out as they can now, would
give schools more incentive to inform parents about the curriculum, the Massachusetts Catholic Conference (MCC) said recently.
"The current process puts all of the burden on parents," said Daniel Avila, MCC's associate director for policy and research. Avila said many sex education classes disseminate information including contraception, abortion and same-sex unions, all sins meriting eternal
damnation according to Catholic teachings.
