Prison pen pals

I'm a British guy who really likes American guys. About 6 years ago when I was feeling really lonely I found a prison pen pal agency in the gay press and I decided to write to them asking for a pen pal. I will admit that I became very emotionally attatched to my new found friend. We seemed to have everything in common, and we continued to write one another for more than a year, when I told him that I was visiting the US, and that I would like to meet him. It was then that I found out that he wasn't being honest with me...... It turned out that my friend was a Black guy, and not a White guy like he had led me to believe. He had even sent me a bogus photo of another guy! I was so upset and angry with my friend, not because of the colour of his skin, but because he had decieved me, and I wanted to finish our correspondence, but I decided to give him another chance, but only if he came clean about anything else. Of course he told me everything about himself, but he had already damaged my trust in him, and things were never the same again between us. I really loved that guy, and he hurt me so much that I will never write again to an inmate. The plus side of writing to this guy was that I learned a lesson in life, and it made me realise at how badly treated inmates are. I will always remember my friend and at how he is coping, (he is doing a life sentence)but I would never write to another inmate because of how manipulating they are to get what they want. I feel sad for the way in which my friend has made me feel, because deep down I know that not all inmates are bad.
