Addicts Adhere to Treatment Regimens

View our poll archive
Users of illicit drugs benefit just as much from HIV medications as people who are infected sexually or some other way, Canadian researchers reported at the International AIDS Conference in Mexico City.

Their finding, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, contradicts widespread worry that drug abusers cannot stick to treatment.

In many places, users of illicit drugs are less likely to be prescribed lifesaving anti-HIV meds, a practice stemming in part from the belief that such resources are wasted on those unable to adhere to a treatment regimen.
