With depressing regularity Dawn is sent clips like the recent item from New York Newsday reporting that three six graders in a Harlem elementary school have been arrested and charged with felony sex offenses (meaning that they could be required to register for life as "sexually dangerous persons"). Their crime? A game of "truth or dare" in an empty classroom wherein three 11- and 12-year-old boys engaged in "sodomy" with a nine-year-old girl.

School officials and police expressed shock that the game was fully consensual. "When she was telling me what happened," one mom told Newsday, "she was almost bragging. Another girl was a lookout, and there was another holding the door for the boys."

Of course, the very concept of "consensual rape" is startling to those who value rationality, but this parent only seemed surprised that kids could be so resourceful in arranging sex play. Perhaps this is her first child, thus accounting for her naivete; what would shock a more experienced parent was that the hijinks were heterosexual-- usually kids that age opt for homosexual horseplay....
