San Francisco -- Critique of Patriarchal Reason

View our poll archive
Vaccine research, ecology, and weather forecasting-- steeped as they are in scientific reason-- are tools of homophobic patriarchy. This at-first-sight unpromising claim is the theme of Critique of Patriarchal Reason, a new philosophical tome by Arthur Evans, the longtime gay activist and writer. Author of the classic Witchcraft and the Gay Counterculture, Evans dropped out of Columbia University just shy of his doctoral degree in 1972, and traveled west to help found New Sodom, a commune in Washington State. Before that, Evans was a key figure in the Gay Liberation Front, which grew out of the Stonewall Riots in New York City. With the publication of his latest book, Evans has challenged members of the Columbia University philosophy faculty to come out of the closet. So far, none have taken him up on the offer. Nor have they accepted his book as his dissertation, as Evans sought. Are they just being stodgy? Judge for yourself. Send $33.20 (Californians add tax) to White Crane Press, c/o 584 Castro Street #682, San Francisco, California 94114. Or for chapter one, browse over to www.webcastro.com/evans1.htm.
