Loyal to the Party
By Dawn Ivory

View our poll archive
If Barney Frank ever gets tired of carrying Bill Clinton's water, he can ask Virginia Apuzzo for help.

Ginnie is now, as the PR-mantra goes, the "highest ranking openly gay or lesbian government official ever." (She is "assistant to the president for management and administration," whatever that is.) And she's out to prove that just because she's a lesbian doesn't mean she's going to mind-

lessly support every call for gay rights and freedom. Ginnie, like Barney, clearly understands that in order to be effective, you sometimes have to compromise....

Ginnie-- who bagged taking the bar exam, fearing its "moral turpitude" clause would out her-- now explains, regarding Clinton's attack on gay marriage rights, that "reasonable people can disagree." As for Clinton's despicable foot-dragging over his promised-but-yet-to-be-seen "Manhattan Project" for AIDS, Ginnie tosses her hands in the air and says she doesn't "believe in litmus tests."
