A Norwegian taxi firm is promoting safe sex by handing out free condoms to any client who asks. "We've had an incredible demand. People are not shy," Paul Erik Bergmann, chairman
at Horten & Borre taxi firm in south Norway said. A sign on the back of the driver's seat reads: "Forgot condoms? Ask the driver!" Bergmann said his company's 20 taxis had handed
out 300 condoms in two weeks.
There are no age limits and no questions asked.
Jon Hilmar Iversen, health promotion director at the Norwegian health authorities, said the taxi plan is one of several nontraditional initiatives to crack down on STDs and
unwanted pregnancies. "We want to give easy access to condoms to people where they are when they need it," Iversen said.
