How to order
Under the pretext of interviewing them for sales jobs, director Ginetto di Masolo lures six young Mexicans to a hotel room in Guadelajara, where they're told that in order to qualify,
they have to strip and jerk off. When the purportedly straight young men refuse to comply, they're bribed. "We like clean, organized people," says di Masolo from behind the
camera, explaining that choice of underwear reveals character, trimmed pubic hair indicates a knack for organization, and readiness to get an erection is a gauge of physical control. In
some segments, it's almost easy to believe that the situation is real and that the interviewee is caught by surprise.
But Straight from Mexico isn't quite the candid-camera effort it claims to be; one clue is that these working class lads show up in brand-new, camera-ready underwear. The
models are all appealing, especially tall, queerish Zoe Ontiveros, who flashes an Antonio Banderas smile, and long-haired Amer- indian Kenai Sidka, who giggles a lot. Perhaps the most
attractive is the fifth interviewee, Oss Sky (though he calls himself Rodrigo on screen), a delicate-featured graphic designer who needs no financial incentive to show off his assets. The
incentives provided the others are stingier than some US viewers may think. The models are enticed with pesos; a Mexican peso is now worth less than a dime.
