This centerpiece of a three-part series improbably surpasses its first-rate predecessor, Sexus. The forthcoming third volume, presumably called Plexus to complete a tribute to Henry Miller's Rosy Crucifixion trilogy, will have to be astonishing not to seem anticlimactic. Nexus comes close to setting new standards for multi-partner, all-sex gay video.

On a black-box set, producer/director Ward assembles seven top-notch models in Levis and tank tops, gets them naked, and keeps them performing at full intensity for 90 minutes. The cast includes down-and-dirty Tony Serrano; hairy-chested Bruce Jennings; bald, goateed Rik Jammer; dark, muscular Tom Vaccaro; lean, spritelike Fyre Fli; foxy blond Riley Porter; and clean-cut Latino Carlos Morales. Everyone has a distinctive persona; no one winds up in the margins. The models make intricate, kaleidoscopic connections through eye contact and conspiratorial smiles. The action stays coherent from beginning to end. Except for an unfortunate jump cut that carries the cast from shirtlessness to nudity, there's an illusion of real-time sex. Chris Ward's editing, David Hempling's videography, and J.D. Slater's score are generally superb.

Supplements on the two-disc DVD release include three alternate versions of the main action, variously emphasizing rimming, fucking, and group interplay; raw footage from second-camera videographer Gary Carleton; and, in the mail-order "hardcore" edition, heavy-duty butt-play segments that include fisting. (For the latter series of vignettes, the cast expands to include Aaron Tanner.) This smorgasbord is arguably too much of a good thing, but good things are so rare in gay adult video productions that it would be foolish to complain.
