As the list of HIV drugs grows longer and the rules of prescribing more complex, it's hardly surprising that doctors' errors are mounting. A recent study found
that 40 percent of prescriptions to HIVers had incorrect doses, schedules or combos. This is worrisome given the dizzying array of dangerous interactions between
HIV drugs and other meds; some combos are simply forbidden, while others require monitoring and dosage adjustments.
Luckily, there's a new easy-to-use, up-to-date tool available to docs and PWAs who have computer access: The HIV/AIDS Clinical Calculator is part of
the Medscape website at www.medscape.com/Medscape/HIV/DrugInteractions. Type in your drug list; it alerts you to interactions and spits out a practical
med-taking schedule.
