A longitudinal study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that education efforts in eight major
cities have boosted condom use and decreased sexual activity among high school students. The CDC dispensed surveys to over 40,000
public school students, grades nine through 12.
The CDC noted declines in the percentages of students who had ever had intercourse in all eight cities. Four cities also saw significant declines in the percentage
of students who already had four or more sexual partners. Six cities saw significant boosts in condom use, with the totals ranging from a 25 percent increase in Dallas to
a more than 50 percent increase in Jersey City.
