So long as you're marginal-- for the London Fringe Festival
Where's it all happening? On the fringes, of course. And the very center of the margins, come July 17th to 30th, will be the London Fringe Festival. At the Jermyn Street Theater,
the festival "brings together artists, writers, performers, producers, directors-- and of course people who love to watch top-quality theater," declares impresario Michael Darton. As a
fringe festival, of course, this will mean theater performed at the very frontiers of taste, decorum, and profitability.
Laquisha Jonz and Kandy Kane are among performers slated to strut their stuff. But wait-- this could be about you, too. "All those who wish to present their work for
consideration can apply immediately-- though spaces are limited," Darton says. "Yes, I'd love to have artists from America involved," he confirms to
The Guide-- waving his hand in a expansive
gesture intended to convey Canada, Mexico, and probably even Communist Cuba, too.
So whether you sing, dance, quip, recite, or merely profane, you might be welcome to join the roster of performers. Even without you, there's already set to be "four fully
staged plays, late-night comedy, cabaret, and premiers of play readings."
London is upstaged in few things, but in matters fringe, Edinburgh is reputed to take the cake. "Our festival takes place right before the Edinburgh Festival," Darton notes,
"to accommodate those who wish to preview work-- or to take advantage of this event to get their work seen first!"
