Researchers from Italy conducted a 36-patient study to determine the effectiveness of vinorelbine on patients with AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma who experienced disease progression after one or more regimens of
systemic chemotherapy. Participants in the study, which was performed from December 1994 to May 1997, received 30 mg/m2 of vinorelbine every two weeks. Three of the 35 assessable participants experienced a complete
recovery, and 12 showed a partial response. The average response time was 176 days after the start of treatment. Vinorelbine was also successful in improving the condition of some patients who had become resistant to treatments
using other vinca alkaloids.
