Chicago Ablaze
It's Fireball Weekend

View our poll archive
Chicago-- According to the event's FAQ, red used to be the official color of the Fireball Weekend, but now there is no official color per se. "There is no preconceived color for 2002," organizers say. However, in red's place has been officially decreed a veritable rainbow of flame-related hues, "from orange to blue." With the air hopefully now cleared, we may proceed to say more about the Fireball Weekend, February 8-10, 2002, "a world-class series of dance events held in the heart of Chicago's gay community." But Fireball is not all frolic and fun-- big money also is involved. "Produced by the Hearts Foundation, this weekend is part of a fundraising tradition that has raised over $2.2 million for HIV/AIDS and GLBT charities," declare organizers, eyes agleam. Among the events is a "Welcome Party," Friday, February 8, 2002, 9pm to 4am at Crobar (1543 N. Kingsbury); and "Fireball, The Main Event," Saturday, February 9, at the Aragon Ballroom. Not to mention the Chicago Jazz Brunch and the Sunday T-Dance & Closing Party. You can get single-event tickets, or there are special multi-passes to everything at various price points, betokening various levels of generosity, prestige, and procrastination (closer to the big weekend, ticket prices rise). Browse to www.thefireball.com, (or www.thefireball.com/pages/home.html for the Flash-challenged) for all the info, or call 773-244-6000.
