Philadelphia-- One hopes Pridefest America, the big springtime Philadelphia homo-cultural extravaganza, notified Guinness Book about "Artistic Alternatives"-- the "first exhibition in Philadelphia of major American artists themed around sexual orientaiton."
The exhibit runs March 20 to May 6 and features the work of such late-20th century art-world celebretiesas Keith Haring, David Hockney, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andrew Warhol, three of whom are happily still ornamenting the new millennium. [These]
are some of the most influential artists of our time, and they continue to be a source of inspiration for all aspiring artists," says Malcolm Lazin, P'fest's director asserts, a bit grandly. Nonetheless the exhibt should be interesting, highlighting as it does "the alternative
choices they made in their art and their lives." Among the works are Hockney's painting "Christopher Isherwood and Don Bachardi," four Warhol silkscreens of Mao and his "lesser-known design work for
Aspen Magazine." The exhibit is free and open daily 11am to 5pm
