Elvis Costello has crooned the lyrics "I used to be disgusted/ Now I try to be amused," an apt admonition for political junkies threatened with hypocrisy overdose during presidential campaigns.
Surely (the aptly-named) Liddy Dole has the most morally untenable position on abortion: she wants it outlawed except in cases of rape or
incest. But if abortion is murder (as her Republican pro-lifer pals claim), then how can Liddy sanction the "murder" of those fetuses whose only sin is having
the wrong father? Liddy is "pro-choice" but thinks that the acceptable reasons for such a choice should be determined by her, not by the woman contemplating the procedure. Then Liddy had the gall to parade herself as a candidate committed to getting meddlesome Washington bureaucrats out of our lives.
