Sex or Death: Which is Worse?
By Dawn Ivory

View our poll archive
Recently, a 16-year-old Boston youth stopped breathing and died while being held in restraint in a state-licensed facility for troubled teens, prompting officials there to investigate disciplinary techniques at the group home. Among the findings were that the boy had "someone else's semen in his body," but that the putative sexual activity had nothing to do with his death. Nonetheless, Barbara Gray, a board member of the facility, remarked to the press, "the sex was unfortunate, but it's no where near as unfortunate as his death." Wow. Dawn is sure, though, that some therapist/recovery/survivor types would disagree....
