Berlin's most hedonistic bash brings back Weimar decadence-- on steroids!
In the 1920s, Berlin's Kit Kat Club had a reputation as an after-hours venue for bawdy, hedonistic pleasures. The club was a home for misfits and the louche, and such was its notoriety
that Kit Kat formed the backdrop to the movie
Cabaret. Today, not much has changed, except that antics are considerably more risqué than a lithe Minnelli thigh over a table chair.
In typical Berlin fashion, parties in the noughties are definitely naughty, and excess (usually sexual) is the order of the day. Kit Kat features regular nude and SM nights, and
everything in between.
Hustlaball, held last October, certainly didn't fail to uphold the Kit Kat tradition. The lineup included an eye-popping list of Colt studio porn stars and assorted celebs from the world
of adult entertainment, including Matthew Rush and show-stopper porn legend Jeff Stryker.
Hustlaball is the brainchild of Sascha Müller-Bardone. He came up with the idea for the party after the demise of Berlin's infamous "Love Parade" in 2003-- the former title-holder of
the "best and sleaziest Berlin party." Müller-Bardone felt that Berlin was bereft without a substitute.
"Everyone was looking for an alternative to Love Parade after it disappeared," he says.
Now in its second year, Hustla has garnered a significant word-of-mouth reputation for discerning Berlin party-goers-- and an increasing number of international hedonists are
now making the annual trip to Berlin for the experience.
No shrinking violets
At Hustlaball, you can forget the go-go boys you'd normally see at a gay party. Here, you're more likely to see triple-X podium sex, with any combination of one to five guys at a time.
"They're all whores and porn stars!" says Müller-Bardone, of the talent he enlisted for this year's event. "They're definitely not shy," he adds, which is exactly what he expects
from guests as well.
With dark rooms, play spaces, and awesome sound-and-lighting, there's ample stuff to keep guests occupied. The night is broken up by a series of international porn entertainers,
who grace the stage to perform live.
This year's MC, New York's Lady Bunny, performed to a crowd who didn't quite get her wig and retro get-up, nor the irony of her own version of the
Cabaret hit "All that Jizz."
They did erupt, however, when she introduced Jeff Stryker, who walked on stage obviously having met with a fluffer backstage. Despite being in his early forties, Stryker is still
every inch the porn star, and his appearance attracted more digital and mobile phone cameras than a Renee Zellweger red-carpet stride.
As for next year's event, Müller-Bardone is keeping mum. "Of course I'm not going to give it away to you," he says coyly. At any rate, he's going to have a hard time topping this
year's event.
