Shot in Hawaii at the foot of Mount Kilauea,
Eruption is sumptuously beautiful. The sex is seldom as volcanic as it means to be, but it's vibrant, romantic, and
lushly photographed by director/videographer Bruce Cam (with an assist from Brian Mills). One of the most winning qualities of this production is its sense of
affection between men: the models seem to be not just getting off,
but enjoying one another's presence.
The opening sequence has strength and magic. Materializing out of thin air like a pagan god, Eduardo walks naked through a grove of palms with a machete in
one hand and a coconut in the other. As he hacks open the coconut and drinks its milk, Dean Coulter emerges from the sea and approaches. What follows may be one of
the best advertisements for gay sex ever filmed.
None of the four succeeding episodes quite measures up to the first, though the trail-side encounter between hikers Peter Wilder and Austin Masters comes
close. The concluding segment showcases three newcomers, all of whom fit the Titan mold of hot, mature, slightly hirsute masculinity, none of whom has yet acquired
enough skill as a sexual performer to know how to make the scene work. There are too many tentative, self-conscious moments. And Bruce Cam should know better than
to undercut an indelible erotic vignette-- Dean Coulter licking his own semen off Eduardo's fingertips-- by repeating the gesture twice in other scenes with other
actors, each time less effectively.
