How to order
In Winged, cast in a role that some of his fans may feel he was born to play, Blade Thompson is an angel. His wings are the four-passenger commuter plane he pilots back and forth between L.A. and
the Beyond. His ability to tell the difference between those two places attests to his supernatural powers.
When sad, nerdy passenger Jay Anthony, who is scheduled to leave the physical world, reveals his lack of self-esteem, Thompson sets about helping him build confidence and find true love before his
departure. This process begins with slow, cool sex before a mirrored wall in an ice-blue room to the sound of trite, sensitive New Age trance music. It continues with words of wisdom on the order of "If you put your mind to it, you
can see anything from your mind and from your heart" and "With the rigor of life, sometimes we get bogged down." "Are you going to be saying goofy stuff like this all day?" asks Anthony, voicing viewers' thoughts.
Luckily, halfway through the incoherent script, drag diva Trixie DeLish appears as fallen angel Nadja Business and says what needs to be said: "[Thompson] gets on my nerves worse than that Kathie Lee!"
A halfhearted plot development ensues in which Nadja tries to tempt Anthony down the path of hedonism and superficiality, using French stud Marco Antonio as bait. Rejected by Anthony when he approaches him at
a restaurant, Antonio skips over to the couple at the next table and initiates a threeway that turns out to be the hottest scene in this half-baked enterprise. An upscale restaurant where you can strip and have sex between
courses without leaving your table is a great idea. But it doesn't quite qualify
Winged for redemption.
