Kristen Bjorn's selection of models covers a range of nationalities, ethnicities and races, but each one has essentially the same Praxitelean, nearly hairless, circuit-party body, and variants of the same smooth, pretty, slightly attitudinous face. He often favors flossy settings that seem designed to show off wealth. He overworks trademark quirks like no-hands ejaculations. None of this, however, diminishes the fact that Bjorn is more than just one of the world's two or three best directors of gay male sex videos-- he's an erotic artist who can make gay sex look like the ultimate achievement of the cosmos.

In Man Watcher, an international cast of 15 demonstrates the secret of Bjorn's success: that in his hands those too-perfect bodies and faces become human, alive, expressive, and rapturously turned-on. In a simple narrative set in subtropical Bjornland, Ferenc Botos, a tall Hungarian with a mischievous smile, plays a voyeur. He stalks gay men, follows them home, and peers through their windows or sneaks into their houses to watch them have sex, hang out, or sleep. His favorite quarry is Sandor Vesanyi, who looks the young Oskar Werner. Vesanyi, who has just broken up with boyishly gorgeous Alexei Gromoff, spends his time sulking and dreaming.

Eventually Botos is, to his apparent delight, caught prowling in a courtyard by four men who strip him naked, carry him into the house, fling him over the back of an armchair, and convert him from watcher to doer. Vesanyi, whose reveries have been fixated on his lost lover, finally dreams of an ecstatic orgy that does not include Gromoff. Then, predictably but beautifully, Botos and Vesanyi come together. Man Watcher is filled with sexual grace notes enhanced by Bjorn's artfully composed, crystalline videography-- Sergei Jordonov ejaculating on the sole of Kalman Faludi's foot, Gabriel Garcia and Adriano Sabroso slyly collaborating on Gromoff's body, Zsolt Kopasz licking his semen off Vesanyi's chest, Vesanyi's incandescent smile as he rediscovers sex. This is not to be missed.
