A long article in the Atlanta Journal about a 17-year-old youth makes no mention that he has any desire for, or interest in, the opposite sex. But the article accepts without question his
claim that he is not gay, even though he had a sex affair with a 26-year-old minister of the First Christian Church in Jonesboro, Georgia. The affair lasted one year three months, and included
sex acts in the man's house, in his office, in his church attic, and on church "outings."
"Every time something like that happened," the youth says, "I would go into such a great sense of depression and such a great deal of fear that I had no real choice but just to say,
'Fine, do what you want. Just leave me alone when you get done.'"
No shit?
Why did he climb up to the attic with the minister if he didn't want to have sex? Why, with the security of other people at church outings, didn't he just say no? Why, when his
parents asked him if the clergyman was molesting him, didn't he just say yes? He says he was afraid the man would lose his job. The
Journal accepts this excuse even while reporting that the
youth did tell detectives, district attorneys, and grand juries "more than a half-dozen times" and did help send the minister to jail.
The youth is fascinated by the whole thing; he "is telling his story to anyone who wants to hear it," to school friends, to "church and civic groups and... public forums." He has
become a professional non-homosexual, live, in person. He has been telling his story so often he obviously believes it.
Jonesboro must be a sexually avant-garde town. The clergyman confessed to having sex with nine boys he knew through his church, including a brother of the one featured in
the Journal. Not every congregation can boast nine boys who are making out with the pastor.
Moreover, the youth's parents say "the family was ostracized by church members for going public with their charges."
Even with all his talk about his innocence, the youth seems aware that there's "no real way of overcoming what happened." He's so right. The only way to be a non-homosexual is to
not have sex with men.
