When longtime Falcon Studio president John Rutherford stepped down last summer after 14 years, he acquired the legendary but recently moribund Colt Studio operation, and began producing videos under new auspices. The models in Reload, Rutherford's inaugural Colt production, don't quite replicate the look of vintage Colt icons like Al Parker and Gordon Grant-- rugged, muscular types who fed fantasies of truckers, cowboys, and construction workers. Some are more like yuppified Falcon models, circa 2003, but studio founder Rip Colt would almost certainly give them his blessing. (And has, according to Rutherford's press material.)

Each portion of Reload starts with an intertitle citing a noun or adjective-- manly, strength, masculine, power, force-- and its dictionary definition. Five well-crafted sex scenes set those words in motion. Beginning with an ardent lovemaking session between Alex LeMonde and Marcus Iron, every sequence benefits from Todd Montgomery's camera skills and Andrew Rosen's editorial finesse. You might wish magnificent Adam Dexter, the only African-American model, had more than a solo, but Dexter still gets a star turn full of visual grace notes. Among several newcomers, bearded, hirsute Ray Dragon may be closest to the Colt aesthetic of the 1970s, but baby-faced hulk Tod Parker is also a find.

There are two superb multi-partner loops, including a swimming-pool orgy where much of the action is viewed underwater. And if you thought the encounter between Chase Hunter and Lane Fuller in Falcon's recent Drenched was unsurpassable, watch them fuck in Reload's final episode and think again.
