Toronto--Canada's largest city has many fine things going for it, but-- ahem-- a Folsom Street isn't one of them. San Francisco's thoroughfare of that name, you may recall, is the longtime site of the famous and annual Folsom Street Fair, a celebration of all things kink (this year, July 25th). But Toronto's lack in this regard won't faze lovers of the kinky, queer, and leathersome-- who from far and wide will throng to-- ahem-- a City of Toronto parking lot on Sunday July 18th, noon to 10, for the second annual Folsom Fair North. All right, it's not any parking lot-- this is one's across from the Wellesley subway station, a block from Yonge Street, in the heart of Toronto's gay village. And instead of cars, this lot o' parking will boast a lot o' sexual paraphernalia: with vendors of exhibitors (not to mention exhibitionists), demonstrations (did we say dominatrixes?), music, entertainment, a large beer garden, and food offerings from Toronto restaurants. There may even be a hunk of Folsom Street, SF-- last year organizers took a piece of the actual pavement with them and christened it with beer during the opening ceremonies. "Whether you love fetish gear, dressing sexy or just like to watch, Folsom Fair North has something for everyone," declare impresarios John and Dean. Parties and play-sessions book-end the event on Saturday and Sunday. "Come and shop, eat, drink, dance, and see-and-be-seen in your most outrageous fetish attire." Proceeds go to benefit AIDS Committee of Toronto. Browse to www.fultonfairnorth.com for all the facts.

And-- this just in!-- nearby and shortly after will be the first annual Church Street Fetish Fair, sponsored by (this is genteel Canada) the Church-Wellesley Village Business Improvement Area. "It's everything your mother warned you about-- in a street fair," says fair chair Dennis O'Connor. It happens Sunday, August 15, 2004, from 11am to 10pm on a five-block stretch of Church Street (from Gloucester Street south to Wood Street).
