Fucking Insults

Having taught in Turkey, I thought "The Joy of Insults" (Loose Lips, January 2008; available at Guidemag.com) was great.

The boys here are very much as Blanche describes: 90 percent of the humor/insults are fucking-related, and the rest are about being a filthy or stupid person. Ama nakoim ("I will fuck your pussy," usually male pussy or an inanimate object's pussy) is the most common, and often used continuously when talking about something you don't like.

Marriage's Alternatives

Thanks for using the part of the article in One magazine (and a picture of that issue's cover) of the 1950s in discussing views on same-sex/gay marriage [see "Promiscuity's Freedom, or Marriage's Respectability?" and the related articles from August 2008, available at Guidemag.com]. I'm glad a letter writer also mentioned it, as it gives a view most people have not heard, and it comes from the earliest thinking of our community/movement.

And French Wall in his editorial says what needs to be said, that some people seeking their version of "equality" do not include all of us.

That has been the reason many do not approve of "affirmative" action, and hate-crime laws, which seem to imply that some of us are more important than others.

And I've always wondered why some "gays" push so hard to use terms such as "orientation" as if that makes them feel better than proclivity or preference. And what is "equal" if homosexuals can marry if non-marrying people are thus treated as second-class citizens?

Few people know of the organization that discusses this issue: Alternative to Marriage Project (Unmarried.org). But more and more people are understanding that the first step is "divorcing" the state and the church on control of marriage.

Language, Not Dialect

The fact that Valencian (or Catalan) has not a strong state of its own in which to be official (with the exception of the tiny state of Andorra) doesn't mean that it's a "dialect" of another language like Spanish. You may browse any encyclopedia to check it. For instance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valencian.

Prisoner Looks Forward to Using Travel Info

I am incarcerated in Baraga Maximum Security Correctional Facility here in the Michigan Department of Corruption, where books and magazines are hard to come by. But I chanced upon a copy of The Guide, and I am fascinated. I wanted to write and tell you just how informative your mag is, and how much I enjoyed it.

I have had subscriptions to several magazines, but yours is the best in detailing the wheres, whys, and hows.

I will be released in a year, and hope to be able to use your travel information then!
