Cathedral City, California-- Thomas Mann wouldn't have stood a chance. James Baldwin would be advised to look elsewhere. Joe Orton could just forget it. Dennis Cooper might more profitably
pick his nose. But writers of a more pollyannish disposition, with, at the ready, a "novel, novella, or related group of short stories," might consider submitting to the fiction competition sponsored by the Arch and Bruce
Brown Foundation. Submitted works "must present the gay and lesbian lifestyle in a positive manner
and be based on a historic person or event." Winners, who may number more than one, will be announced at the Lambda
Literary Awards in spring 2001, and will receive a cash award of $1000. Sharpen your quills and stock up on parchment, because all submissions must be postmarked by November 30, 2000. For official guidelines write the
foundation at PMB 503, 31855 Date Palm Drive #3, Cathedral City, California 92234, or browse to www. aabbfoundation.org. Check out the foundation for information on their cash grants to production companies producing
homo-friendly movies, operas, films, videos, musical works and other gay-friendly cultural agitprop.
